Stay Aboard Idle Lake House

A floating retreat for slow mornings, salt air, long lunches and nights spent drifting gently on the water.

idle.

Moored on the waterfront in Lakes Entrance, Idle is a private, design-led stay unlike anywhere else on the Gippsland coast.

The Experience.

Part nostalgic escape, part boutique retreat, Idle was once an old floating Chinese restaurant reimagined into a one-of-a-kind accommodation experience on the water.

Wake slowly. Swim from the deck. Pour a wine as the sun disappears behind the lake. Watch weather roll across the Gippsland Lakes from bed.

Designed For Slower Living

Idle was designed for people craving atmosphere, stillness and connection to place.

Inside, you’ll find warm textures, vintage details, curated interiors and spaces intentionally created for slowing down. Outside, the lake surrounds you entirely - changing colour, mood and movement with the weather and time of day.

Summer in Lakes Entrance feels wild, social and alive. Boats pass by, people gather by the water and the coastline hums with energy.

Winter is something else entirely.

Quiet streets. Cold ocean air. Hot sauna sessions. Long dinners. Mist across the lake in the early morning.

We love both equally.

At times you may hear the sounds of conversation, laughter and cold plunges drifting gently across the water - part of the atmosphere and rhythm of life aboard the vessel.

Reviews

Recently stayed at Idle Lake House for the second time and honestly didn’t want to leave. Such a beautiful, peaceful spot to switch off and relax. The house was stunning, thoughtfully styled, super comfortable, and had everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. The outlook over the water was incredible and made it feel so calm and private. We’ll definitely be back!! Thank you Nephelle and Daniel

Staying at Idle is a special experience, as the reviews testify. This gorgeous accomodation is literally on the water, and we were extremely lucky to have fabulous autumn weather for our three night stay. The sun followed the decks around the space, the sunset was gorgeous, the visiting swan captured our hearts. We enjoyed the 3 hour boat cruise around the lakes which departed close by, with dolphins and seals and water birds surrounding the boat-and also took a long walk along the pristine 90 mile beach. What more is there to say.

Such a perfectly curated luxurious space, down to every detail. Everything about it was delightfully classy and yet I felt very at home and relaxed.
The sauna next door was an added bonus and a short walk to the excellent Sodafish for dinner. The bath is next level and the beds delicious clouds.
It’s everything I’d hoped for!!
